The Merc with a Mouth by Amelius The Merc with a Mouth by Amelius
Jeez, there's like no fanart category for stuff that's not drawn!

All pipecleaners of course, with a little marker touch up.
Anyway, not sure how many people watching me read any Marvel comics (I'm only aware of a handful that do) but this character's name is Deadpool, and he's a snarky mercenary and quite possibly the best thing Rob Liefeld has ever given the Marvel comics universe, and that includes the hilariously bad footless characters and Capt. America with a big bosom [link] (cubism maybe? :giggle:)

If you weren't aware, I'm quite fond of this character. They need to get Fabian Nicieza or even Mark Sumerak on it (met him at a convention and checked out a small bit he did with the character and quite liked it) but the HACK HACK HACK (excuse me, terrible cough!) dude they got writing now, Daniel Way, just can't write the character worth beans and has made some EXRTREEEEEMELY annoying and unnecessary changes to the character. Deadpool, written correctly, is supposed to be like Spiderman if Spiderman had no qualms about blasting people and knew he was in a comic, and replaces the teenage angst with mild (that is, mild!) dementia.
If you want a good example of the character, Deadpool Vs. The Marvel Universe, Cable and Deadpool and Deadpoo-GLI Summer Fun Spectacular are a good place to check it out, heck even the classic issues with Liefeld's awful art are better than the crap Way is churning out. Daniel Way writes Deadpool as Nick describes it: " A blithering idiot that couldn't tie his own shoes without blowing his own arm off". I could complain in detail, but I'll spare you for now ^_^
(if you ask though, I'd be more than willing to share!)

Since his appearance changes in different issues, I just took the look from the GLI crossover and DP Vs. Marvel U

Deadpool is copyrighted to Marvel, of course.

In honor of Disney buying Lucasarts you should make a corresponding Boba Fett figure. Then they can fight each other. Or side by side. Or both at the same time.

Now that I actually know who this character is, I think this is so cool! I just started really getting into Marvel comics, and Deadpool is so AWESOME. (I don't know how, but after reading a few comics I vaguely remembered you doing a pipe cleaner figure of him, even though I didn't know Deadpool at the time, and found it again!) Anywho, this is awesome. The end.

Deadpool makes the most hilarious inside jokes for those who read him.

1:"Yeah, Disney bought Marvel out--"
2:"DEADPOOOOOOL!"
3:"That was scary..."
1:"You read Deadpool? PANCAKES."
2:"BE THE MEAT."
3:"Holy crap."

Nuuu, those are Daniel way "deadpool" quotes, hisssss!
That's an impostor in Deadpool underoos!

I'm really beginning to believe that he thinks he's writing dialogue for GIR from Invader Zim. The whole stupid meat suit thing really pushes that over the edge. No matter how he tries, he'll never top this! [link]

Deadpool, awesome just by himself. But just the fact that you made him out of pipecleaners? Just spectacular!

[I'm not obsessed with pipecleaners or anything its just, how often to you see someone make an awesome comic book character out of pipecleaners? Yea know?]

Oh, that's cute too!... well as cute as you could probably make Deadpool. Personally I prefer spiderman and only segwayed into him via "Suicide Kings"
I should really catch up with the more recent issues. I stopped when I saw that the regular art was replaced by Shawn Crystal's work. Needless to say, I'm not fond of him. Anyways, that's totally worth a good donation!

Hahaha thank you! I made a Spiderman one a long time ago with velcro on his hands, but I gave him to a friend and I think he might've lost it somewhere...
Ah, Suicide Kings Deadpool...I really don't count him as real DP though since he's the basically the same crappy re-tooled character from the awful Daniel Way stuff and the equally sucky "Merc with a Mouth" (which I was so excited about, and soooo disappointed by!)but at least SK is the best of the worst. Honestly, if that's your first time reading anything with DP in it, you don't know the awesome you're missing. However you don't have to deal with crippling disappointment when your favorite character is completely ruined by an incompetent writer either, so I guess that's good!

If you want a better read of DP, I'd recommend trying to find the collections of DP Classic. You'd have to put up with Liefeld art for one issue, but after that Joe Mad takes over and it looks pretty good and it only gets better from there. Deadpool Versus the Marvel Universe is also a really good one, it's just plain hilarious.
Also, Great Lakes Initiative Summer Fun issue has a fantastic Deadpool in it. Plus since it's a one-shot you might be able to find it a little cheaper than a trade paperback ^_^
Hehe, sorry to go off on a ramble about DP, as you can see I'm quite fond of the character and quite disappointed with how he is being written these days. It's as jarring an out-of-character portrayal as the "gosh-darned" All Star Batman, if you've ever had the pleasure of laughing at that one!

I feel the same way about Gen13, but I always figured it was my adolescent romanticizing of the voluptuous spandex clad super heroines that I knew as a kid. So I assumed everyone else does something similar when they rag on newer editions of their heros. But I also get that Marvel has been rehashing the mutilated corpses of it's original creations to the point where they can't even be rezombified... I'll assume that made sense without going off on a tangent about wtf Disney is probably gonna do to further violate those beloved characters.

Anyways, I get what you mean. I just have to find a way to get a hold of some old DP comics. The local Atomic Comics really doesn't like me since I often "thumb through" their inventory rather than buy. (I know, I'm a monster)

I really have no problem with Rob Liefeld's art. I mean, I think the whole feet problem thing is exaggerated, and his proportions are at least better than most popular anime out there. Then again, I'm a bit biased, since my brother was kind of a Youngblood fan.

Oops, I think that came off a bit passive aggressive. Been on a particular website recently (funniest thing I've found this semester) and I think it's rubbing off on me. Apolo-geez about ranting like that. An' thanks for the recomend'z. Now to find a way to get "copies" of em!

Hahah! don't worry, you didn't sound aggressive, passive or otherwise to me! I love a good rant about comics ^_^ and I'll agree with you, Liefeld's art isn't the worst ever (if it's a choice between him and Ben Templesmith I'll definitely stick with Rob!) but I like to tease, most people seem violently opposed to it. I've got art weaknesses of my own and I'd feel pretty bad if people were holding them up as an example all the time!

yeah, I'm a little concerned too about what Disney Marvel will be like...

(haha , no crime looking at the inventory either! we frequent a shop that don't bag everything right away so you can preview it before you buy it, and tend not to go to the ones that forbid you from even touching the book unless you're gonna purchase!)

You might check the library, ours has a few TPB's of newer titles, you might find them in there too :).

Ugh, the local library is connected to my old high school, in addition I dunno if my old crush still works there. I really don't wanna be reminded of how juvenile I was at 18. I doubt if the university library has any comics. Plus I tend to stay away from THAT library. Nothing but bad things happen when I'm there.
Umm, lessee I vaguely remember not being able to rewind the microfilm after tinkering with the machine. After figuring out that experimentation isn't the best way to find out how to use school property, I ended up stuffing six rolls of tangled microfilm behind the congressional records.
One of my buddies slipped a couple "women's sexuality" books in my bag. Ended up having to sneak em back onto the shelves a like nine that night.
Got scolded for drawing a giant toilet on the whiteboard of a group study room.
Accidentally walked in on a couple in a doctorate study booth.

... I never said I stopped being juvenile. Point is, I might have to go the ebay, or amazon route.

Okay, last post and I'll stop. Anyway, the movie toy in the pic I showed you, once came in at my local comic book store. It's pretty ugly. So, I hadn't personally looked online until now. These photos look closer to a traditional Deadpool: [link] and [link] . Well, he's not masked, but he wears red and at least he has his swords and guns, right? But who exactly is this character that the toy calls Deadpool: [link] . I really hope that toy is a typo, but ... we'll see what the movie contains when it releases, I suppose. I still don't know Deadpool's backstory, but I do know he never removes his mask due to the whole disfigurement thing. I still can't picture him with knuckle claws and lasers out his eyes though.

Oh, yes! He was walking through... Tokyo, I believe, with Kitty Pryde. They were going to meet someone. Wolverine wouldn't fight him, so Deadpool gutted the guy he was supposed to meet. Some kind of old friend. As a form of psychiatric therapy recommended and overseen by DOCTOR BONG!

Also, first and (probably) only strip where Kitty Pryde broke the fourth wall. Forgot how, though.

Blame Pip for this comment.

I really enjoy Charby the Vampirate, and I didn't know you had a D.A. account. Pip recently linked it, and this is the first thing I saw on it. I have to say that is the most amazing thing I've ever seen on D.A. The level of detail is awsome, his swords, his guns, his signature belt buckle. You got Deadpool's look down perfectly.

That's absolutely awesome.

I don't read Marvel, being much more of a (ridiculously huge) DC fan, but I love Deadpool nonetheless. There's just that thing about him... I once had a chance to get my hands on a whole slew of Deadpool comics, but I never read them before we had to sell them for needed cash, and it's something that I've always regretted.

You might be pleased (or dubious) to know that Deadpool is supposed to be in the Wolverine movie that's coming out sometime soon. He's going to be played by Ryan Reynolds, which judging by his portrayal of Hannibal King in Blade Trinity and the scans I've read of the Deadpool sounds about right...
